MiLEAP Announces New Grant Opportunity to Strengthen Adult Enrollment Pathways

New Reconnect Enroll with Momentum Grant helps colleges remove barriers and expand opportunities for adult learners returning to higher education

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) today announced the launch and opening of applications for the Reconnect Enroll with Momentum grants. The grant supports Michigan’s community and tribal colleges to work in partnership with county governments to develop strategies that help adult learners, including current and potential Michigan Reconnect applicants, start or continue their postsecondary education and earn credentials that strengthen Michigan’s workforce. The grant’s emphasis is on helping adult learners enroll while implementing strategies that can put them on a fast track to certificate or degree completion.

“Michigan’s adult learners bring tremendous talent, determination and experience to our state,” said Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, director of MiLEAP. “But too many still face challenges that delay or prevent them from starting or returning to college. These grants provide our institutions the resources to identify barriers, implement effective strategies and help more adults take the next step toward degrees, careers and lifelong success."

The Reconnect Enroll with Momentum grants are the newest grant category under the state’s Student Success Grant initiative, the state’s first-ever grant program aimed at increasing student success rates at Michigan’s community and tribal colleges and universities. The initiative helps colleges and universities implement research- and evidence-based strategies to improve student outcomes, contributing directly to Michigan’s Sixty by 30 goal, the state’s commitment to ensuring 60% of working-age Michiganders have a postsecondary credential by 2030.

“Reconnect Enroll with Momentum grants give Michigan colleges the tools to remove barriers, forge stronger local partnership and create lasting pathways for adult learners,” said Sarah Szurpicki, deputy director of MiLEAP’s Office of Higher Education.By supporting innovation at the community level, these grants help more Michiganders gain the skills and credentials our state needs to thrive.”
