Unauthorized Access to MiBusiness Registry Portal Accounts
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) runs the MiBusiness Registry Portal. The portal is the online system businesses use to send forms and documents to LARA.
Two outside groups recently requested access to more than 6,000 businesses in the portal. They were not connected to those businesses. The users have been removed from all accounts. No documents were sent without permission. The system does not provide access to non-public information.
When someone asks for access, LARA sends an email to the business. This email lets the business know about the request. It also tells them that the person could file documents for them. This alert helped identify the improper requests.
Businesses should:
- Make sure your email on file with LARA is correct.
- Check files in the portal at least once every three months.
- Review each filing to make sure everything is right.
- If you see filings you did not approve, contact LARA at 517-241-9223 or via email.
- Read all emails you receive from LARA.
- Check your spam folder for LARA emails. If you find them there, mark LARA as a safe sender.
Businesses should also watch out for scammers pretending to be LARA. LARA CSCL uses the following addresses when contacting businesses:
- noreply-micorporationsdivision@mail.michigan.gov
- LARA-CSCL-CorpInfo@michigan.gov
- LARA-CSCL-CorpsMail@michigan.gov
