Rule 158 (1)


1. The center must be located on land with good natural drainage or proper drainage systems.

RATIONALE

Poor drainage increases insect breeding and health risks.

Rule 158 (2)


2. Stairs, walkways, ramps, landings, and porches must meet safety requirements.

  1. Elevated areas must have barriers and child‑appropriate handrails.
  2. Surfaces must be nonslip and maintained free of water, ice, and snow.
  3. Landings must be outside exit doors and at least as wide as the door swing.
  4. Steps must be no more than 8 inches high with at least 9 inches of tread depth.
  5. Ramps must have a 1:12 rise‑to‑run ratio.

RATIONALE

Landings prevent dangerous situations when exiting onto stairs.

BEST PRACTICE

All porches and balconies should have bottom guardrails.

3. Doors opening to the outside must not be propped open.
