Disability Compensation

If you have an injury or ailment that was a result of, or made worse by, your military service and you were discharged under other than dishonorable conditions, you may be entitled to disability compensation. The basic benefit amount ranges from $152.64 to more than $3,000.00 per month, depending on your level of disability and number of dependents. This is a tax-free benefit. Additional rate information can be found on the VA Website.

  • Call MVAA at 800-MICH-VET (800-642-4838) to be connected with an accredited veterans service officer who can help you prepare, submit and manage your benefits claims to the VA. Our VSOs will work with you every step of the way, helping you to prepare the necessary forms, document your claim(s) with pertinent data and ensure proper submission and case management of your claim(s).

  • The VA presumes that specific disabilities diagnosed in certain veterans were caused by their military service. VA does this because of the unique circumstances of their military service. If one of these conditions is diagnosed in a veteran in one of these groups, VA presumes that the circumstances of his/her service caused the condition, and disability compensation can be awarded. This list changes periodically, and we will make every effort to make updates as they arise. Learn more about Service Connected/Presumptive Conditions.

  • If you are a veteran who qualifies for a 100-percent disability rating from the VA, you are entitled to additional benefits not afforded to other veterans. Learn more about 100-percent disabled benefits.

  • Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) is a tax free monetary benefit paid to eligible survivors of veterans whose death resulted from a service-related injury or disease or eligible survivors of military servicemembers who died in the line of duty.

To check eligibility, visit the VA's website.

To apply for DIC compensation, contact a benefits counselor near you.
