Agriculture
Agricultural Industries
Designed for students who are interested in gaining in-depth agricultural industry and business knowledge to apply to their own operation or to launch a career in the industry. The program allows students the flexibility to focus on agronomy, horticulture, animal science or agricultural business. This 18-month program integrates a wise range of disciplines including business, leadership, technology and communications through hands-on laboratory learning and classroom formats. It is possible for students to complete the Agricultural Industries Certificate and transfer on to a four-year degree program.
Beef Cattle Management
Designed to allow students the opportunity to specialize within a one-year intensified program, this program provides students with a greater knowledge of both cow/calf operations and feedlot segments. Students will have the opportunity to take courses from Department of Animal Science faculty and work hands-on with one of the most notable purebred herds in the U.S. and the feedlot at MSU's Beef Cattle Research Center. A hands-on clerkship at the MSU Purebred Beef Cattle Center and MSU Beef Cattle Research Center is central to the program.
Dairy Management
Designed to give students a basic foundation of knowledge and skills about dairy cows, the dairy industry and dairy farming as a business. Courses are practical in nature and focus on the basic knowledge and skills needed to be successful on all types of dairy operations as an owner, herdsman or dairy farm employee. Students are also employed by agricultural businesses that support dairy operations.
Horse Management
Designed to allow students the opportunity to specialize in the area of horse management, the typical program model includes three semesters of on-campus, academic based learning opportunities and one semester of off-campus placement training at a horse facility. Students have the choice of tailoring their area of interest toward management, reproduction, riding instruction or training. All students will complete an industry-related internship.
Swine Management
This one-year, intensified program provides students with a greater knowledge of swine enterprise management through experiential learning, clerkship programs and an internship. The swine clerkship at the MSU Swine Teaching and Research Center is designed to provide students with a thorough hands-on experience in modern swine production.
Turfgrass Management
The certificate program with a golf course emphasis is directed towards preparing students for a rewarding career as a golf course superintendent or other career options in the golf industry. The program provides students with a solid background in plant science along with the specific expertise and skills needed for a career in golf course supervision and management. Previous work experience on a golf course maintenance crew is expected.

MICHIGAN CAREER AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTE (PLAINWELL)
Information Technology Program
MCTI's Information Technology program is a recognized CompTIA Authorized Academy and Cisco Networking Academy. It includes a well-equipped computer lab that provides a realistic setting for up-to-date, hands-on training. Students spend approximately 30 hours a week maintaining and repairing office management systems, computers, laptops, mobile devices, copiers, printers, and other office equipment. Depending on interest and ability, students may pass up to 10 internationally recognized certifications for the IT industry.
GLOBAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (OAKLAND COUNTY)
Veterans Information Security Initiative
Created specifically as a MVAA Fast Track Program for Michigan veterans to enter and advance in the IT field. This program provides professional coaching and assists veterans in finding a long-term IT career. Since December 2015, more than 40 Michigan veterans have been trained and placed into IT jobs.
HENRY FORD COLLEGE (DEARBORN)
Computer Numerical Control - Manufacturing Productivity Systems, Basic Certificate of Achievement
In the modern business environment, many employers require substantial skills in the use of CNC equipment. The attainment of the Certificate in Manufacturing Productivity Systems offers evidence to employers that the individual has reached the basic level of proficiency. It provides students with the opportunity to improve their job skills. Students enrolled in the program will receive training on the latest CNC equipment used in the industry.
CNC-Programmer Training
This free, six-week training course allows students to gain knowledge and experience in various CAM systems, 2D programming, Solid Works drawing systems and 3D machining on the Vertical Machining Center.
MICHIGAN CAREER AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTE (PLAINWELL)
Custodial Program
This program is designed to train individuals to be capable, well-qualified building and commercial custodians. Through hands-on training, students gain experience in daily cleaning and floor maintenance, stripping of floors, restroom sanitation, daily carpet cleaning and shampooing and using and maintaining equipment. Students are also trained to follow work schedules and keep inventory.
HENRY FORD COLLEGE (DEARBORN)
Welding Technology - Basic Certificate of Achievement
The manufacturing and service industries use welding as a means to build and repair products. The courses included in this certificate focus on the skills needed in electric arc welding, MIG welding and oxygen fuel gas cutting. Students learn to weld in all four positions (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead) using the latest technology and equipment.
OAKLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE (OAKLAND COUNTY)
Certificate in Construction Management
In collaboration with the Naadee Development Corporation, the Associated General Contractors of Michigan and the Home Builder's Association of Michigan, OCC is offering construction management training for veterans beginning in 2016. This short-term training will include college courses that will lead to a certificate in construction management and work experience and/or full-time employment through local contractors. MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY (EAST LANSING)
Electrical Technologies Program
Students will study the latest electrical codes, electrical fundamentals, various electrical installations motor controls and solid state electronic applications. Throughout the program students will also receive training in energy efficiency and alternate power systems. The Electrical Technology lab is over 4,000 square feet and equipped with electrical systems found in agricultural, commercial and industrial facilities as well as systems that serve residential homes.
MIAT COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY (CANTON)
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Program
Working safely on HVACR systems requires a thorough knowledge of the science of heating and cooling, a keen awareness of safety procedures, a proficient familiarity with the tools of the trade, and the ability to perform a variety of manual skills. The HVACR training program is composed of both classroom lectures and hands-on learning. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a foundation in HVACR while graduates of this program will gain advanced skills once employed in the field. Veterans with previous applicable training may receive military training credit to shorten the time of the program.
Culinary Arts
Culinary Arts Program
Students gain experience at the Pine Grove Restaurant on campus and also work in the school cafeteria, where they learn large-quantity food preparation, breakfast cookery and serving. The program offers the required classes for chef certification, ServSafe, nutrition and supervision
Energy
AAS in Energy Technology
This program is a combination of classroom, hands-on assignments and outside work/homework. Power generation, power plant operations, wind power, compression technology and process systems are covered. Anyone considering MIAT's nine-month Energy & Industrial Technician program can also complete an Associate Degree in Energy Technology with a few months of additional training. The added curriculum allows students to move into more complex technical positions and managerial roles. Veterans with previous applicable training may receive military training credit to shorten the time of the program.
WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY (DETROIT)
Veteran Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program
This program is tailored to veterans who have completed their nursing pre-requisite courses. The VBSN program is an accelerated program where nursing coursework can be completed in 18 months. Faculty has military experience and a majority of clinical rotations will take place at John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit.
HENRY FORD COLLEGE (DEARBORN)
Pharmacy Technician Program
This program is designed to prepare professional entry-level pharmacy technicians for employment in hospital, retail, community or specialty pharmacies. Clinical duties are emphasized in the classroom and laboratory with directed practical experience in out-patient dispensing and in-patient technical skills including preparation of IV admixtures and use of automation.
DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY
Veteran's Bachelor of Science Nursing
This degree is designed for experienced paramedic-level certified military veterans to obtain a nursing degree and a position in the health care field. This program will fast-track many medically trained military personnel by granting advanced standing for transcripted military training, credit by exam and through DSST or CLEP.
LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE (LANSING)
Military Medic and Advanced EMT to Paramedic Program
This program creates a pathway for military medics to transition to paramedics. Those who complete this program are positioned to continue onward to become a nurse, if desired, by entering into the Advanced Standing Nursing Program. Students in the program are eligible for GI bill funds, Military Tuition Assistance and traditional Title IV financial aid. LCC offers a Paramedic Certificate of Achievement and an Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services. Those who continue onwards can earn an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing.
Military and Veterans Radiologic Technology Program
This 21 month course of study leads to an associate's degree. Students are admitted in the fall, with a limited number of openings each year. Graduates will be eligible to take the national registry examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
MICHIGAN CAREER AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTE (PLAINWELL)
Certified Nurse Assistant Program
Students learn patient care techniques in a simulated lab environment, followed by a clinical rotation at a nursing home. Hands-on instruction in patient care, communication, medical terminology, documentation and medical equipment is also provided. Upon completion of the program, students are offered study and practice sessions to prepare for the state competency exam.
Pharmacy Technician Program
Students receive hands-on training in applied pharmacy skills including performing pharmacy-related calculations, cashiering, and inventory management through participation in a mock pharmacy lab. In addition, students acquire essential skills needed to interact professionally with pharmacy customers, coworkers and other health care professionals. Students also receive additional experience and assistance in preparing for national certification.
SOUTHWESTERN MICHIGAN COLLEGE
Phlebotomy, Specialty Certificate Program
A phlebotomist draws blood from the patient so various laboratory work can be performed to aid the physician with treatment. A phlebotomist works mainly in clinics, physician's offices or hospitals. Some home health agencies hire phlebotomists who also have nurse aide skills.
Law
Military Police Basic Training Program
This program offers qualifying military police veterans the option of attending a 280-hour basic police training academy, rather than the full course of study. Curriculum includes legal matters, patrol procedures, detention, police skills, traffic and special operations. Any military police veteran interested in this program must meet all MCOLES pre-employment standards, including passing the physical fitness test and the reading/writing examination.
Corrections Officer Academic Program
This program offers the state-certified 15 credits in corrections courses required to help students become eligible to apply for corrections officer positions with the Michigan Department of Corrections. Preference in hiring is given to students who complete the corrections courses with a 2.0 GPA or better.
MICHIGAN CAREER AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTE (PLAINWELL)
Electronics/Manufacturing Program
Students learn entry level skills appropriate to most electronic businesses and manufacturing industries. Courses help prepare students for entry-level employment in industrial electronics, maintenance and manufacturing.
Cabinetmaking/Millwork Program
Students are trained in the operation of state-of-the-art woodworking machinery and software. Individual and production projects are designed to develop competency and expertise.
Machine Technology Program
Students learn various machining operations, such as manual milling, turning and grinding. With successful completion of manual training, advancing students choose either welding or training in Computerized Numerical Control.
Automotive Technology Program
Students are trained in basic shop practices and have experience working on vehicles. During each 10-week course, students may train in the diagnosis and repair of brakes, suspensions, electrical, heating/air conditioning and engine performance systems, working toward state and national certifications. Courses featuring oil and tire services are also available.
MIAT COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY (CANTON)
Airframe & Powerplant Technician Certificate Program and Aviation Maintenance Technology Associates Degree Program
This program focuses on teaching students the precision technical skills necessary to become an FAA Certified Airframe and Powerplant Technician. Participants can add additional months of education to achieve an associate's degree. The added curriculum provides essential academic skills to move into more complex technical positions and managerial roles. Veterans with previous applicable training may receive military training credit to shorten the time of the program.
Global Logistics and Dispatch Program
This program is a combination of classroom, hands-on instruction and outside assignments. Upon completion, graduates will have a variety of entry-level career choices in dispatch and supply chain management fields. The program includes three phases, Global Logistics, Operations Management and Aircraft Dispatch. Veterans with previous applicable training may receive military training credit to shorten the time of the program.
MERRILL INSTITUTE
Welding Program
The Merrill Institute offers veterans the opportunity to participate in a hands-on, project-based, twelve-week training course that teaches the four main welding processes: MIG, TIG, Stick and Flux Core. In addition, students gain knowledge of oxy fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, basic blue print reading and weld symbol interpretation. Upon successful completion of the program, students graduate with an AWS SENSE Level I Certification that is nationally recognized by industry professionals. With a 93% employment rate, the Merrill Institute not only teaches the knowledge and skills companies are looking for, we assist with job placement and offer additional certifications through the Accredited Test Facility.

Chemical Process Operator
This program teaches basic chemical processing and manufacturing operations, and includes some major and vital processing skills.
Diesel Technician
This program trains students for entry-level diesel tech job performing preventative maintenance on heavy-duty diesel vehicles like semi-trucks and buses. Individuals will receive a Certificate of Completion, and earn for hours of academic credit toward Delta's Heavy-duty Diesel Service Technology associate degree.
Marketing
Retail Marketing Program
Students learn hands-on customer service/personal selling, cash handling, inventory control, merchandizing, and promotion/advertising in a real life setting while working in the Eagle Shack on campus. They also receive training in National Retail Skill Standards for loss prevention and safety procedures.
