Federal and State Benefits
There are several different federal education benefits programs to choose from, making it important for you to understand what you qualify for and what will best help you meet your education goals. The term GI Bill® refers to any Federal Tuition Assistance.
Federal Tuition Assistance may be available for active and reserve service members. To learn more about eligibility, application, policies and funding, visit the DANTES website.
The Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program (MINGSTAP) is available to eligible members of the Michigan National Guard.
The GI Bill Comparison® Tool can be used to evaluate how to use this resource for several types of training to include: undergraduate and graduate degrees, on-the-job and apprenticeship training, flight training, non-college degree courses and entrepreneurship training. This tool also allows veterans, service members and their families to determine which GI Bill program is their best option. Understanding the difference between the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill can help estimate the amount of funding needed for educational success.
The Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) (Chapter 31), formally referred to as the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program, can assist qualified veterans who are looking for guidance in their career path and employment opportunities.
The mission of the Michigan Career & Technical Institute (MCT) is to develop customized workforce solutions for businesses and individuals with disabilities and provides an educational center for adults with disabilities, including service-connected disabilities, in Michigan offering career assessment services that help students explore job options.
