Reporting Instruction Manual
Websites used for reporting

Overview of employer websites

The Michigan Office of Retirement Services (ORS) uses two main websites for public school employers.

  1. Employer Reporting: This is a secure site you log in to for your daily work. You use it to enter reports and make payments.
  2. Employer Information: This is the site you are on now. It provides guides like this manual. It doesn't require a login.

The State of Michigan also provides the File Transfer Service (FTS). This web tool lets you and ORS move data and files safely. It protects sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers.

Employer Reporting website

Use this site to report information for each worker. You'll upload one report each pay period. This keeps each person's account current. You can find a link to this site on the Reporting Resources page. The site is open every day from 5:00 a.m. to 10:29 p.m.

Depending on your access, you can use this site to:

  • Manage user accounts for your reporting unit.
  • Submit and fix retirement reports.
  • Check pay and hours reported.
  • Review tax-deferred payment balances.
  • Verify a worker's retirement plan.
  • Submit payroll details for workers applying for retirement, duty disability, or nonduty disability.
  • Make payments to ORS.

Logging in and navigation

Your login process depends on your user type. ORS sets up accounts for Web Administrators and Payment Processors. Other users can create their own accounts and user ID. When you log in, you'll see the Employer homepage. The Things To Do menu on the left has links for your tasks. These links change based on your job role.

Key sections include:

  • Work on Reports: Create and submit retirement data.
  • View DC Feedback File: See changes to 401(k) and 457 plan savings rates.
  • Retirement Applicants: Complete details for workers who applied for retirement.
  • Work with Contacts: Update info for your reporting unit.

Employer Information website

This site has forms, rate tables, training resources, past communications, and financial reports. You can find information about past laws that affected the Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System here. The site is open to the public.

File transfer service (FTS)

The FTS moves data quickly and securely between state agencies and partners. Each reporting unit has one account. The username is ORS plus your reporting unit number.
