Andy Henion, Communications Manager
Andy manages the MVAA strategic communications team in developing and disseminating agency messaging and supports branding, marketing, public relations and media relations.
A northern Michigan native, Andy served as a Cavalry Scout in the U.S. Army's 2nd Armored Division from 1987-90. He used his military educational benefits to attend and graduate with honors from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1994.
Andy spent 14 years in the newspaper industry, including stints as an editor at the Lansing State Journal and enterprise reporter at The Detroit News. In 2006 and 2007, he won back-to-back Michigan Excellence in Journalism awards from the Detroit Press Club for stories on the Oakland County hospital battle and Iraq War veterans' struggles and successes in returning to the workplace.
Crossing over to public relations in 2007, Andy worked for 10 years at his alma mater, promoting MSU in the national and international news media. He joined the MVAA in November 2018 and considers it an honor to serve his fellow veterans and their families.
He is married to Tracy, a teacher and communications professional, and they live in Okemos with their children and dogs.
