2019 Women Veterans 5k Fun Run/Walk was a success! We partnered with the Michigan Women's Commission to host this event in downtown Lansing. Proceeds from the race went to WINC for All Women Veterans, Michigan Women Veterans Empowerment, and MOXIE Wild.

  • Women Veteran Recognition

Women Veterans Recognition Day June 12

Women Veterans Recognition Day is a day to celebrate women who have served in the military. It is important that we have days like this, because many women are overlooked and feel invisible when it comes to be recognized for their service.

The historical significance of June 12 comes from the anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, which was signed into law on June 12, 1948 by President Truman. It allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force.

Every year since 2018, partner organizations and MVAA have worked with the Michigan State Legislature to request a resolution for Women Veterans Recognition Day. In 2019 the Michigan House of Representative and the Senate passed resolutions for the day, and Governor Whitmer signed a Proclamation.

She is A Veteran

She is a Veteran is a women veteran's outreach campaign designed to:

  1. Connect women to their identity as veterans
  2. Change the public perception of what veterans look like
  3. Connect women veterans to benefits
  4. Connect women veterans to community

The campaign consists of 6 women veterans who represent the diverse backgrounds of Michigan veterans. These women share their stories hoping that their personal journeys will resonate with all individuals and can encourage military women to speak up and proudly identify with their veteran status.

We encourage you to share these stories.
