MVAA encourages veterans to connect with their earned benefits in the New Year
January 15, 2026
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) is encouraging Michigan veterans and their families to kick off their new year by meeting with a veteran service officer (VSO) to get connected to their earned benefits and resources. Veterans and their dependents can find a VSO near them by calling 1-800-MICH-VET (642-4838) or by visiting Michigan.gov/MVAA.
“The agency’s VSO program exists to make sure no veteran has to navigate their earned benefits alone,” said MVAA director Brian L. Love. “We are here to help veterans and their loved ones access the benefits, services and resources they earned through their military service. As we begin a new year, we invite Michigan veterans to start it off right by connecting with us and getting the support they deserve.”
Accredited VSOs assist veterans and their families with applying for VA benefits they earned through their service to the nation. VSOs can also conduct benefits reviews to help ensure veterans are receiving everything to which they are entitled. Recent examples of MVAA VSO assistance can be found in the 2025 MVAA Annual Report.
MVAA VSOs are currently located in:
- Alpena
- Grand Rapids
- Livonia
- Marquette
Veterans and dependents can choose any VSO or VA Benefits Counselor on the list for their county of residence, regardless of affiliation. A full list of VSOs statewide is also available at Michigan.gov/VSO.
MVAA also offers other free services to veterans including free copies of their DD-214 discharge documents. For more information about that program, visit Michigan.gov/DD214.
Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency - The MVAA is the central coordinating agency, providing support, care, advocacy and service to veterans and their families. As a state agency, MVAA works to identify and break down barriers veterans face in employment, education, health care and quality of life, to make Michigan a great place for veterans and their families to call home. More information about MVAA is available at Michigan.gov/MVAA or by reading our FY25 Annual Report.
