Don’t send money to someone claiming to be from the IRS. That’s a scam. The IRS will not request personal information over the phone, require an immediate payment using a specific method of payment such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer, or threaten you with local police, immigration officers or other law enforcement. They will first mail a bill to a taxpayer that owes taxes and allow for opportunities to question or appeal the amount.
