Auto insurance identity theft occurs when a fraudster purchases auto insurance using your identity.

Immediately contact the insurance company that issued the policy to report and dispute the insurance. 

Explain that you are a victim of identity theft.

You should file a police report. Take along: ID, proof of your address, and proof of theft. You will be provided with a copy.

Reporting can assist law enforcement and the Department of State with stopping uninsured motorists.

Police departments are required to take your report under MCL 762.10C and MCL 780.754A.

You should monitor your mail for insurance coverage notices that you did NOT initiate.
