MVAA offers employment and education services for veterans, transitioning service members and their families
November 26, 2025
LANSING, Mich. – As the new year approaches, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) is reminding veterans, transitioning service members and their families about the agency’s employment and education initiatives. Whether you’re looking to start your educational journey or ready to explore career paths, the MVAA offers transition assistance, education resources and connections to veteran-friendly schools and employers.
“We are here to ensure veterans and their families have access to the education, workforce preparation and transition support necessary to build secure futures here in Michigan,” said MVAA director Brian L. Love. “Through MVAA’s resources and programs, we reinforce our dedication to their continued success and wellbeing.”
The MVAA is committed to assisting service members as they transition from the armed forces to Michigan's civilian workforce. This includes helping to identify career paths that align with military skills and specializations, conducting job searches and applying for jobs.
Veterans and service members can also explore a list of MVAA’s Veteran-Friendly Employers (VFE) to help find a work environment that recognizes their military service. A MVAA VFE demonstrates strong military veteran recruitment, training and retention practices and are awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze level status.
For transitioning service members, veterans and their loved ones looking to continue their education, the MVAA provides assistance and resources to help ensure academic success. These resources include federal and state benefits, GI Bill and benefits for family members. The MVAA’s Veteran-Friendly Schools (VFS) program also honors the post-secondary institutes that support the needs of veterans and military-connected students. Like the VFE program, institutions are awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze level status based on their veteran-centric services and programs.
Additionally, honorably discharged WWII, Korean or Vietnam War-era veterans who were unable to receive their high school diplomas because they enlisted or were drafted into the armed forces can still be awarded their graduation certificate. To apply for a diploma, the veteran or next of kin can access the form on MVAA’s website or call the Michigan Veteran Resource Service Center at 1-800-MICH-VET (1-800-642-4838).
