8.03.04: How to report non-member/non-ORP employee wages and count for universities
Some university employees aren't members of this retirement system and aren't eligible to join the optional retirement plan (ORP) offered by their employer. The Michigan Office of Retirement Services calls these employees non-member/non-ORP employees.*
At the end of each pay period on the payment due date, universities must report the total wages for these employees. They must also report the number of non-member/non-ORP employees on their payroll. A Web Administrator or Payment Processor can perform this task.
To report non-member/non-ORP employee wages and count:
- Select Non-Member/Non-ORP Reporting on the Things to Do menu.
- Select Enter new Non-Member/Non-ORP Employee Wages and Count.
- Enter the Begin Date and End Date for the pay period. These dates should match your reporting unit’s payroll calendar.
- Enter the total wages and the employee count for the pay period. Select Save.
To review or make changes to non-member/non-ORP employee wages or count:
- Select Review/Update Non-Member/Non-ORP Details.
- Select an end date from the current or previous posted entries. Select OK.
- Review the wages and employee count. Make any needed changes.
- Select Save if you made changes. Select Cancel if you don’t need to make any changes after reviewing.
- Review the information message that appears. Select Continue to save the changes or Cancel to discard them.
*Non-member/non-ORP employees are people hired on or after Jan. 1, 1996, who aren't full-time faculty or full-time administrators. These employees would have been required to be Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System members if Public Act (PA) 272 of 1995 had not become law. Review PA 488 of 1996 for more information about this definition.
