Licensing & Regulation (L&R) Division
The Licensing & Regulation (L&R) Division provides legal services to several bureaus within the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA):
- The Bureau of Professional Licensing (relating to many licensed professions under the Public Health Code and Occupational Code)
- The Bureau of Construction Codes (relating to residential builders, maintenance and alteration contractors, mobile home parks, ski areas, and carnival/amusement rides)
- The Corporations, Securities, and Commercial Licensing Bureau (relating to mortuary science, prepaid funeral services, cemeteries, and a variety other licensed entities/businesses)
The division also represents numerous licensing boards created under the Public Health Code and the Occupational Code, as well as the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission. In addition, the division represents the Cannabis Regulatory Agency.
On an annual basis, the division handles hundreds of administrative actions on behalf of LARA, as well as representation in civil actions in state and federal court.
