Nessel: Judge McCann a Criminal Justice Reform Pioneer
May 06, 2019
LANSING - Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel today issued a statement on the passing of lifelong Michigander and former Livonia District Court Judge, James McCann:
“Judge James McCann’s passing ends a lifetime of service to our state and country. For nearly 30 years, Judge McCann ruled from the bench with compassion, fairness and justice. While most will remember him for his lifetime of service, we must not forget his role as a pioneer of criminal justice reform, implementing the first Volunteer Probation Department in the state as an alternative to jail. My heart goes out to Judge McCann’s family. We are a grateful state and nation because of his service, and I thank his family for sharing him with us for so many years.”
