MI AG Nessel Issues Statement on Michigan Being Named to Purdue Pharma Settlement Committee
September 17, 2019
LANSING - Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement today after Michigan was named to the committee that will represent the governmental claimants in Purdue Pharma settlement discussions:
“Purdue’s bankruptcy filing was expected. And by entering into this structured bankruptcy, not only do we ensure an infusion of billions of dollars for our states to address this economic and life-debilitating epidemic, we ensure that this company – and its owners – can no longer flood our communities with harmful products that take lives and devastate our cities and towns.
“As Michigan’s Attorney General, I am proud to sit on the Committee that will represent the governmental entities supporting this solution as we work to make sure Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family are held accountable for their actions that created and nurtured our nation’s opioid crisis."
