MI AG Nessel, US Rep. Dingell Commend CVS for Bringing Rapid COVID-19 Testing to Dearborn
April 23, 2020
LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel recently worked in tandem with U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell to bring a temporary drive-thru, rapid COVID-19 testing site administered by CVS to Dearborn, Michigan. CVS has already established four similar sites across the country – Connecticut, Georgia, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Located in the parking lot of Henry Ford Centennial Library, 16301 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn, the CVS site not only accommodates drive-thru customers but also provides on-the-spot results so those who test positive for the virus can immediately quarantine. There is no cost for the test.
Attorney General Nessel worked closely with Congresswoman Dingell and staff from the Michigan departments of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to ensure CVS had all the necessary approvals quickly.
“This virus has overwhelmed our communities and it is absolutely essential that we reach underserved multicultural communities that are disproportionately impacted by the virus,” said Nessel. “I am extremely grateful to CVS, the dedicated staff at LARA and MDHHS, and Congresswoman Dingell for helping to bring this much-needed testing capacity to Michigan.”
“Throughout this whole crisis testing is critical. Testing informs treatment and gives us a scope of the spread in our community. Frankly, we urgently need more testing,” said Dingell. “We worked hard bringing together the State, CVS and local partners to get drive-through, rapid testing to Dearborn and outer Wayne County, which has been hard hit. The site improves our ability to test outer Wayne residents by being able to test 750 people per day. We worked hard to make this happen and it’s now reality for Southeast Michigan residents.”
The rapid COVID-19 testing site will be supervised by licensed health care providers from CVS’s retail medical clinic located inside the store. All COVID-19 testing will be done at the testing site itself.
