LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel today announced the appointments of Mitch Albers as her new director of legislative affairs and Amber McCann as special projects director in the Office of Public Information & Education.
“I am happy to welcome Mitch and Amber to our team – I know they will prove to be invaluable as they take on these new roles,” Nessel said. “They each bring a wealth of experience and knowledge needed to serve the people of this great state. Mitch’s legal background will provide this office with another perspective as we dissect the many statutory questions we are presented with, and I look forward to his counsel. Amber has proven herself a tireless public servant, working for many years in state government and I am confident she has the skills and experience needed to succeed in this new position.”
Prior to joining the Michigan Department of Attorney General, Albers served as deputy legal counsel and policy adviser in the Michigan House of Representatives’ Democratic Policy Office. There, Albers also served as lead policy adviser for the House committees on Elections & Ethics, Insurance, Ways & Means, and the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance Rates.
Before that, Albers was assistant director of government relations for the Michigan Association of School Boards where he was responsible for advocacy efforts on state and federal issues impacting public education.
Albers is a Bowling Green State University graduate and earned his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
McCann, who is joining the Department as special projects director, previously served as deputy chief of staff in the Senate Majority Leader’s Office for more than a decade. During that time, she was a member of senior staff teams for Senate Majority Leaders Mike Bishop, Randy Richardville, Arlan Meekhof and current Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey.
Before that, McCann worked as a grant administrator for Learning Care Group, the second largest for-profit childcare provider in North America.
McCann is a Western Michigan University graduate and earned her master’s in public administration from Oakland University.
