AG Nessel Issues Statement Applauding Governor Whitmer’s EGLE Appointments

LANSING – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced two important leadership appointments at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). Phil Roos will be EGLE’s new director and Kara Cook has been named EGLE chief of staff. In response to these appointments, Nessel issued the following statement:

“The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is a vital partner in my office’s commitment to protecting Michigan’s lakes, rivers, and streams, as well as the animal life and people that depend on them. With a dedicated environmental advocate like Phil Roos overseeing this important work, I know that our natural resources will remain protected for the millions of Michigan residents who enjoy them year-round.

“Kara Cook has proven herself to be a dedicated and reliable ally in the energy and environmental arena. She will be a great sounding board as she spearheads the policies and initiatives Phil decides to implement as EGLE director.

“Protecting Michigan’s natural resources and addressing climate change is as great a priority for Governor Whitmer as it is for me and is reflected in her decision to name these two accomplished public servants to lead EGLE. I look forward to working with Phil and Kara to preserve the resources that make Michigan such a wonderful place to live.”
