AG Nessel Reaffirms Commitment to Reproductive Rights on Second Anniversary of Dobbs Decision
June 24, 2024
LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement on the second anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization U.S. Supreme Court decision:
“The two years since the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade serve as a stark reminder that judicial precedent is not set in stone. It was and remains a wake-up call to fiercely defend our fundamental rights. While Proposal 3 marked a significant victory for reproductive freedom in Michigan, we can’t be lulled into a false sense of complacency. These rights remain under attack.
“Across the country, states are crafting laws to restrict abortion access and courts are weighing challenges to birth control and IVF, underscoring how we are just one election away from losing every right we’ve fought for and earned in Michigan. As further attempts to curtail these fundamental liberties are inevitable, my department will continue to fight for the bodily autonomy of Michiganders as long as I hold office.”
