Pantsuits and Lawsuits Releases Part Two of Podcast Series Marking 10 Years Since Obergefell Marriage Equality Decision
June 20, 2025
LANSING – Today, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes released the second installment of their two-part podcast series on Pantsuits and Lawsuits, reflecting on the legacy and ongoing fight for marriage equality 10 years after the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark Obergefell v. Hodges decision.
In part one, released earlier this month, Attorney General Nessel takes listeners behind the scenes of DeBoer v. Snyder, the case she personally litigated, and which was later consolidated into Obergefell. In a candid and personal conversation, Attorney General Nessel recounts the legal and emotional challenges of the fight for marriage equality, the immediate impact of the ruling, and what the victory meant for countless families, including her own.
Part two, now available, features April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse, the Michigan couple at the heart of the case that changed history, sharing their own story of resilience, family, and hope.
“Ten years since the Obergefell decision, it’s hard not to think about the incredible plaintiffs who made marriage equality a reality,” Nessel said. “April and Jayne’s story and their courage helped change the lives of so many. I am grateful they joined us on the podcast to share their journey and remind us of what the fight for marriage equality was really about.”
New episodes of Pantsuits and Lawsuits are released biweekly to break down complex legal topics in a way that is engaging, informative, and accessible to listeners. With their blend of expertise, humor, and straight talk, the attorneys general explore major legal cases, analyze state and national policy debates, and discuss how attorneys general help shape justice. Through these discussions, listeners will gain a behind-the-scenes look at the work attorneys general do to serve and protect their communities.
The latest episode is available now on major podcast platforms and a video-version is available on the Arizona Attorney General’s YouTube page.
