St. Joseph County Man Sentenced on Three Counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct
July 14, 2025
LANSING – On Friday, Geral Whitney, 69, of Harrison, was sentenced to 20 - 30 years’ incarceration by Judge Paul Stutesman in the 45th Circuit Court in St. Joesph County for sexually assaulting a relative 20 years ago, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Whitney was found guilty by a St. Joseph County jury in May of one count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.
“This significant sentence sends a clear message that no matter how much time has passed, justice is possible for sexual assault survivors,” Nessel said. “My office will continue to work with courageous victims and local prosecutors to ensure cases like these are prioritized and offenders are held accountable.”
Whitney was initially charged in 2023. The investigation and charging decisions in this case were conducted by the St. Joseph County Sheriff and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, respectively. The Department of Attorney General managed the prosecution at the prosecutor’s request that came in 2024.
