Irons Woman Pleads Guilty to Second-Degree Murder

LANSING – Today, Betsy K. McIntyre, 69, of Irons, pled guilty to one count of Second-Degree Murder, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. McIntyre was charged by the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with one count of First-Degree murder for the stabbing death of her husband.

On May 11, 2025, McIntyre stabbed her husband 14 times resulting in his death. Under the plea agreement, McIntyre will serve a sentence of no less than 20 years’ incarceration and no more than 40 years’ incarceration in the Michigan Department of Corrections. 

The Department of Attorney General has begun managing and supporting prosecutorial functions in Lake County following the resignation of the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney in early June. The Department will continue to support prosecutorial functions in Lake County until the prosecuting attorney vacancy is filled. 

“This conviction ensures justice is served for the victim and his loved ones,” Nessel said. “My office remains committed to supporting Lake County during this transition and ensuring violent offenders are held accountable.” 

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
