First Circuit Court of Appeals Blocks Trump Administration’s Attempt to Dismantle HHS

LANSING – Today, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit denied the Trump Administration’s motion to stay (PDF) the preliminary injunction secured by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and a coalition of 19 other attorneys general. The injunction prevents the Administration from dismantling several offices within the Department of Health and Human Services. Attorney General Nessel issued the following statement in response:

“The courts have once again made it clear that the Trump Administration cannot trample on the rule of law to dismantle entire offices within the Department of Health and Human Services. These offices help prevent deadly outbreaks, protect vulnerable families, and ensure Michiganders can access the medical care they need. To try to eliminate them is not just unconstitutional, it is reckless and dangerous. Even the possibility of these cuts taking effect during the appeal process would be devastating, and I will continue to defend the health of Michigan residents.”
