Des Plaines, IL Man Sentenced for 2023 First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct After Being Apprehended Under Operation Survivor Justice

LANSING — Javier Mora, 22, of Des Plaines, IL, was sentenced by Judge Jason Elmore of the 28th Circuit Court in Wexford County on October 9 to 12-25 years’ incarceration for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old from Cadillac in 2023, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Mora pled guilty on July 21 to two counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, one count of Engaging in Child Sexually Abusive Activity, and one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime.

In April 2023, Mora began communicating with the victim through online gaming platforms. Mora then drove from his home in Des Plaines, IL, to Cadillac where he committed the sexual assault.

“I commend the Cadillac Police Department, Oasis Family Resource Center, the Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office, and our Operation Survivor Justice partners for their support in securing this sentence and providing assistance to the victim and her family,” Nessel said. “My office will continue to hold offenders accountable and ensure justice for survivors of sexual assault.”

Mora was initially charged by the Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office in November 2023. Under Operation Survivor Justice, Mora was arrested in Illinois in January 2025 and extradited to Michigan to face charges. The Operation is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate, apprehend, and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.
