Wexford County Man to Stand Trial on Child Sexual Assault Charges

LANSING – On Tuesday, Michael Joseph Caillouet, 47, of Cadillac, was bound over to stand trial in the 28th Circuit Court in Wexford County for allegedly sexually abusing a minor child between 2018 and 2019 and showing the child pornography, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. In 2025, Caillouet was extradited to Wexford County by the U.S. Marshals Service from Butler County, Kansas, to face two counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) and one count of Exhibiting Sexually Explicit Material to a Minor as part of Operation Survivor Justice. At Tuesday’s preliminary examination, following testimony, Judge Corey Wiggins of the 84th District Court bound Caillouet over on those charges while adding two additional counts of First-Degree CSC, three counts of Second-Degree CSC, and one additional count of Exhibiting Sexually Explicit Material to a Minor.

Caillouet was charged by the Wexford County Prosecuting Attorney's Office in September 2025 following the alleged crimes being reported to Michigan State Police in March. Operation Survivor Justice is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate, apprehend, and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.

“Operation Survivor Justice continues to show just how important these partnerships are in locating and returning individuals with sexual assault warrants,” said Nessel at the time of Caillouet’s arraignment. “Survivors show tremendous courage in coming forward, and my office will keep relying on this collaboration to ensure that those accused of these serious offenses are brought back to Michigan to face their charges in court.”

Caillouet's next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
