LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement today in light of oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court in Trump v. Barbara:
“President Trump’s attempt to redefine birthright citizenship is a flagrant violation of the U.S. Constitution and a deeply dishonest effort to erase one of the clearest and most fundamental principles in our country. Birthright citizenship is at the heart of our American story and is what makes our country a nation of opportunity and belonging.
“To suggest otherwise is not only wrong but an insult to the experiences of countless Michiganders whose lives reflect what it truly means to be American. A contrary ruling in this impactful case would fundamentally change the fabric of our country, and I urge the Supreme Court to defend the Constitution and protect the integrity of the American story.”
