Escanaba Man Sentenced to Lifetime Imprisonment for Murder of Pregnant Woman

LANSING – Today, Tavaris Jackson, 35, of Escanaba, was sentenced to lifetime imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the 2023 murder of Harley Corwin, 22, of Escanaba, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Jackson was found guilty by a Delta County jury in March of one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Assault of a Pregnant Individual Intentionally Causing Miscarriage/Stillbirth, and one count of Felony Firearm.

Jackson murdered Corwin on July 3, 2023. Corwin was pregnant at the time of her death. Her remains were discovered on July 8, 2023, in a field in Ford River Township.

“This was a senseless and brutal crime that took the life of Harley and her unborn child,” said Attorney General Nessel. “While no sentence will be enough to erase the pain that her loved ones carry, I hope knowing that the person responsible will never again walk free will bring them a measure of peace.”

The charges were initially filed by the Delta County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. In August 2023, the Department of Attorney General was appointed to prosecute the case.
