Deputy Chief of Investigations Named to Oakland County’s 40 Under 40 List
May 29, 2026
LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is applauding the work of the Department of Attorney General’s Deputy Chief of Investigations Sam Miller (JPG), who was recently named to the Oakland County Executive's Oakland Together 40 under 40 Class of 2026. The 40 Under 40 program recognizes leaders under the age of 40 who are making a difference in the community.
“These types of accolades are too often reserved for the private sector, which makes me incredibly proud to see one of our own law enforcement officers honored in this way,” said Attorney General Nessel. “Sam's dedication to public safety and innovative leadership has made a real difference in our office and our state. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.”
Miller joined the Department of Attorney General in 2019 and currently oversees the Criminal Investigations Division’s five specialized investigative sections: Financial Crimes, Special Investigations, Major Case, Executive Protection, and Felony Non-Support. Upon joining the Department as a Special Agent, Miller was appointed as the Department's first Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (MLEAP) Accreditation Manager, successfully leading the Department through its initial accreditation. He has also supervised the Major Case Section. As a member of the Department's Professional Responsibility, Education, and Policy (PREP) Board, Miller contributes to training and policy recommendations.
Miller previously served the Michigan State University Police Department as a Field Training Officer, Special Victims Unit Road Patrol Member, Background Investigator, Crime Scene Technician, Community Policing Team Leader and Detective. He was assigned as the Special Victims Unit Lead Detective and possesses specialized training in Trauma-Informed Investigations and Interviews.
Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He also attended the Mid-Michigan Police Academy in Lansing. He currently serves as the Secretary on the executive board of the Michigan Police Accreditation Coalition (MI-PAC).
