Warren Woman to Stand Trial on Mortgage Fraud, Filing a False Tax Return Charges
June 25, 2026
LANSING – Yesterday, Robin Young, 51, of Warren, waived preliminary examination and was bound over to stand trial in the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County on one count of Residential Mortgage Fraud exceeding $100,000, a 20-year felony, one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, a 20-year felony, and one count of Filing a False Tax Return, a 5-year felony, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
Between February and July of 2024, Young allegedly e-filed a fraudulent 2023 Michigan Individual Income Tax Return from Grosse Pointe Woods, falsely claiming a refund due of more than $374,000. It is alleged that Young knew the Department of Treasury did not owe her that amount, but she still used more than $100,000 of the illicit refund to purchase a home. During the mortgage lending processes, Young allegedly knowingly mispresented the source of the funds to lenders.
Young was charged by the Department of Attorney General in May. This matter was referred by the Department of Treasury.
“Committing tax and mortgage fraud does not just manipulate the system,” said Attorney General Nessel. “It robs Michigan taxpayers and harms honest homebuyers. My office will continue to work with the Department of Treasury to investigate tax crimes and prosecute those who break the law.”
Young is scheduled to appear before the 3rd Circuit Court on July 8.
