Attorney General Nessel Issues Statement on President Trump’s Primetime Election Speech

LANSING Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s primetime election speech:

“The President has now spent an entire decade trying to convince you that our elections are unsecure and illegitimate. He is now just doing it from the most visible stage in the world:  the White House. He once again wants to distract you from his low approval ratings, skyrocketing costs and forever war with Iran by asking you to ignore the fact that he won in 2024 and focus solely on the 2020 election that he still refuses to admit he lost."

“Whether it’s unlawful executive orders, baseless demand letters for private voter information or the President’s continuous misinformation campaign, my office stands ready to fight back against this administration’s attempt to strip states of their constitutional right to administer our elections.”

Attorney General Nessel has recently secured critical victories protecting the fundamental right to vote for Michigan residents. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals recently upheld a court order blocking the Trump Administration from unlawfully seeking Michigan’s full electronic voter list with no redactions for sensitive, personal information. Nessel is the first attorney general to win these protections at the Circuit Court level, making Michigan a national leader in protecting private voter information. That same week, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts blocked the President’s second Executive Order delivering a blow to the President’s attempt to exert federal control over state elections.
