LANSING – Today, Stephanie Chatfield, 38, of Levering, was sentenced to 6 months’ probation, 25 hours of community service, and a $2,000 fine by Judge Morgan E. Cole of the 30th Circuit Court in Ingham County after pleading guilty under advisement to one felony count of Embezzlement from a Non-Profit, $200-$1,000, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Stephanie Chatfield was charged in April 2024 with one count each of Embezzlement from a Non-Profit Organization and Conspiracy to Commit Embezzlement from a Non-Profit Organization in relation to the Peninsula Fund.
“Anyone who is granted access to non-profits and their funds must obey the law,” said Attorney General Nessel. “Proximity to influence does not grant immunity from accountability, and no one can use their nexus to power to unlawfully enrich themselves. Mrs. Chatfield was a willing participant on the Peninsula Fund gravy train, enjoying a lifestyle funded by money meant to support public welfare. My office remains committed to pursuing and prosecuting those who treat these types of accounts as personal piggy banks.”
