LANSING – Yesterday, Lina Abraham, 41, of Dearborn, was arraigned in the 54B District Court in East Lansing on 15 felony charges related to an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Abraham was employed as an office manager at Dearborn Family Smiles, a Dearborn dental clinic, at the time of the alleged crimes.
Abraham is charged with one count of Conducting a Criminal Enterprise, punishable by up to 20 years’ incarceration and/or a fine of up to $100,000, and 14 counts of Medicaid Fraud, each punishable by up to four years’ incarceration and/or a fine of up to $50,000. Abraham is alleged to have repeatedly billed the taxpayer-funded Medicaid program for dental crowns that were never provided to patients, under her employing clinic’s former name, Artistic Dentistry. It is not suspected that others associated with the dental clinic were involved in the alleged fraud scheme.
“Medicaid provides access to health care for millions of Americans,” said Attorney General Nessel. “It is a vital resource for family health all across Michigan, and my office is specifically entrusted to defend the state and federal program from fraud. I’m grateful to our team of investigators and prosecutors for bringing this case, and for their efforts to protect our institutions.”
Abraham was arraigned on September 23rd, and will next appear before the 54B District Court for a probable cause conference on October 2nd. This case was referred for investigation to the Michigan Department of Attorney General by Delta Dental.
The Attorney General’s Health Care Fraud Division (HCFD) is handling this case for the Department. The HCFD is the federally certified Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for Michigan, and it receives 75% of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant award totaling $5,517,524.00 for the fiscal year 2026. The remaining 25% percent, totaling $1,839,170.00, is funded by the State of Michigan.
