Terrence R. Duvernay Award

The Terrence R. Duvernay Award honors the legacy of Terrence “Terry” Duvernay, who served as Executive Director of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority from 1983 to 1990. A visionary leader in affordable housing and community development, Duvernay’s impact continues to shape housing policy and practice across Michigan.

Presented annually during the Building Michigan Communities Conference (BMCC) since 2002, the Duvernay award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and a sustained commitment to advancing housing opportunities and strengthening communities throughout the state.

Widely regarded as one of the highest honors in Michigan’s affordable housing industry, the award celebrates those whose work reflects innovation, collaboration, and meaningful impact. Each recipient designates a nonprofit organization to receive a monetary award in recognition of their achievements.
