December 12, 2023
LANSING – Today, Assistant Attorney General and U.S. Air Force Major Gregory G. Justis was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal for Outstanding Service, 21 July 2021 to 31 July 2023, in a dedication hosted in the Frank Kelley Law Library by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, Chief Deputy Fadwa Hammoud and U.S. Air Force Major Ryan Ferguson.
The dedication states: Major Gregory G. Justis distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States as Chief of Military Justice, 18th Wing, Kadena Air Base, Japan. During this period, Major Justis served as the Chief of Military Justice for the largest military justice division in the Pacific, leading nine legal professionals and directly assisting the Staff Judge Advocate. Major Justis’ superior litigation skills and steady mentorship were essential to the successful completion of twenty-five courts-martial, safeguarding installation and host nation security and ensuring justice for victims. Additionally, as a subject matter expert on domestic and sexual violence, Major Justis provided training and legal guidance to installation personnel on victim’s rights and emergency response, ensuring the Wing’s readiness to support survivors and their families. Furthermore, Major Justis worked directly with the Air Force Office of General Counsel to support the Czech Republic’s complex investigation of a civilian combat death, upholding the United States’ treaty obligations. Finally, Major Justis was twice hand-selected as the legal representative for multiple large-force readiness exercises, manning multiple deployment lines and the Emergency Operations Center, ensuring rapid strategic responsiveness in a critical area of responsibility. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Major Justis culminate a distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
“Major Gregory Justis has a distinguished career in public service to both his country and his state. The Department of Attorney General is honored to welcome him to our Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture Division and congratulates him on this outstanding recognition,” said Attorney General Nessel.
