LANSING – Today, Damon Bentley, 28, of Detroit, was convicted by a Wayne County jury on charges related to the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old Westland man, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. He was found guilty of one count of Second-Degree Murder, one count of Felony Firearm, and one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
On May 4, 2025, Bentley shot at the victim multiple times and killed him outside the Grand Lofts apartment complex in Southwest Detroit. Bentley was charged by the Department of Attorney General in May 2025.
“While there is no conviction that can alleviate the grief felt by his family and loved ones, I am grateful we were able to secure justice for those mourning this young man’s death,” said Attorney General Nessel. “My office remains committed to prosecuting and holding accountable those who commit senseless violent crimes.”
Bentley is scheduled to be sentenced in the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County on July 28th at 8:30 a.m.
