State Housing Leader’s Annual Upper Peninsula Trip Highlights MI Neighborhood Investments

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) is highlighting historic progress made over the last 16 months through MI Neighborhood, with nearly $105 million dedicated statewide supporting the construction and rehabilitation of 2,942 homes.

This week, MSHDA CEO and Executive Director Amy Hovey and agency staff are visiting nine housing development projects supported by MI Neighborhood, with other visits and meetings on the agenda.

“Our Neighborhood Development Division supports and finances smaller-scale developments, often led by emerging developers,” said Hovey. “This new affordable housing, funded by a blend of state and federal funding in alignment with Statewide Housing Plan goals, makes a real difference in stabilizing neighborhoods and helping more UP families realize the dream of homeownership, while getting us closer to ending the housing shortage.”

Since the launch of MI Neighborhood in April 2024, Upper Peninsula projects have seen $9 million in funding dedicated to support the construction and rehabilitation of more than 180 homes.

In 2024 all MSHDA programs invested $22,295,553 across the Upper Peninsula. So far in 2025, all MSHDA programs have invested $10,399,396 across the Upper Peninsula. The agency will be announcing additional MI Neighborhood investments in the Upper Peninsula soon.

This week MSHDA staff will be visiting MI Neighborhood-supported projects in Sault Ste. Marie, Marquette, Houghton, Kingsford, and Quinnesec. After returning to the Lower Peninsula, they’ll also be visiting a project in Walloon Lake.
