Civil Rights & Elections (CRE) Division
The Civil Rights & Elections (CRE) Division principally represents the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the Commission on Middle Eastern Affairs, the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission, the Black Leadership Advisory Council, the Michigan Women’s Commission, the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan, the Michigan Department of State, the Secretary of State, the Board of State Canvassers, and the Department of State – Bureau of Elections. The Division also frequently represents judicial branch agencies, including the Michigan Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Court of Claims, State Court Administrative Office, Attorney Discipline Board, Attorney Grievance Commission, Board of Law Examiners, and the Judicial Tenure Commission.
Additional duties include:
- Conviction Integrity Unit
- Wrongful Incarceration Compensation Act
- Litigation for the legislature, as necessary
- Lobbyist issues
- Non-criminal election and campaign finance-related matters
