Two Men Arrested in Connection to 2018 Bath Twp. Homicide Proceed to Preliminary Examination

LANSING – Thomas Olson, 34 of Grand Blanc Twp., MI and Robert Rodway, 34 of Saint Johns, MI, appeared in court on January 26, 2023, for the 2018 cold case homicide of Chong Yang, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.

Olson and Rodway appeared for their probable cause conference today before Judge Michael Clarizio in the 65-A District Court in St. Johns on the following charges: 

  • One count of Felony Murder, a felony that carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole; and  
  • One count of Felony Firearm, a two-year felony.  

The Department of Attorney General alleges that the defendants killed Yang while hunting, and stole the victim’s headlamp, knife, backpack, and shotgun. The Michigan State Police Fugitive Team arrested Olson and Rodway on December 21, 2022. Both defendants are being held without bond. 

Olson and Rodway are scheduled for a preliminary examination at 9:00am on March 21, 2023, March 22, 2023, and March 23, 2023.
