MSHDA Applauds Governor Whitmer’s Leadership; Commitment to Build More Housing
LANSING, Mich – MSHDA applauds Governor Whitmer for her continued leadership and partnership on MSHDA’s work to build more housing all over Michigan. The governor is announcing MSHDA investments of $1.4 billion in housing to create or rehabilitate more than 10,000 homes. That is 10 times what the State of Michigan invested in housing 10 years ago.
"We know that one of the biggest factors in determining where people live and work is housing costs. That’s why I’m tackling this challenge head on with a goal to build or rehabilitate almost 10,000 homes to give Michiganders – and anyone who wants to move here – more affordable options,” said Governor Whitmer. “By expanding our housing options, we're expanding supply and lowering costs. Our 2024 strategy is clear and straightforward: build, baby, build!"
“We are moving quickly with solutions, and we greatly appreciate the governor’s leadership and support for building stronger communities through new and renewed housing,” said MSHDA chief executive officer and executive director Amy Hovey.
MSHDA is committed to supporting this historic investment that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of Michigan residents. We look forward to continuing our work with this administration to transform this investment into a reality. Let’s get to work and keep delivering for Michiganders!
