MSHDA Board Approves Funding for Housing in Kent and Wayne Counties

LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Board approved funding for multiple housing developments in Kent and Wayne counties, creating or preserving 650 housing units.

“Expanding our housing stock while supporting the needs of Michigan’s residents is central to our mission,” said Amy Hovey, MSHDA CEO and Executive Director. “These approvals reflect the real progress we’re making to create stronger communities across the state.”

The board approved $18.5 million in MSHDA funding for the acquisition and rehabilitation of Countryside Townhouses in Kentwood. This development consists of 146 family units, all of which serve households at or below 60% of Area Median Income (AMI).

HoM Flats in Wyoming was approved for $39 million in MSHDA funding for the new construction of 200 housing units, including 12 accessible units. This will be the third phase of the development, which will serve households earning from 40% to 70% of AMI and include 38 market rate units.

21 Weston in Grand Rapids was approved for $21.4 million in funding by the MSHDA board for the rehabilitation of 96 units, including 10 accessible units.

Iroquois Terrace in River Rouge was approved for $15.2 million in MSHDA funding for the rehabilitation of 84 units, including two accessible units. The board also approved $23.2 million in funding for Seneca Terrace in River Rouge to support the rehabilitation of 124 housing units, three of which are accessible. The substantial rehabilitation of both developments will include updates to building exteriors, windows and HVAC systems.

With the board’s action this month, MI Neighborhood, which combines state and federal funding to respond to regional action plans in alignment with the Statewide Housing Plan, has reserved $58.9 million in grants statewide to support 1,502 housing units.
