Pre-Retirement Survivor Pension
Your retirement plan provides protection for your dependents if you die while an enlisted state police officer.
Eligibility and calculations depend on whether your death is considered duty or nonduty:
- Duty Pre-Retirement Survivor Pension. Your family may be eligible for pension benefits if you are killed in the line of duty or die from injuries or an illness resulting from your occupation with the Michigan State Police.
- Nonduty Pre-Retirement Survivor Pension. Your family may be eligible for pension benefits if you were a deferred member or active member with 10 or more years of service credit, and you die before you are eligible to receive a pension.
