Department of Attorney General
Department of Attorney General
Attorney General Dana Nessel
A former criminal prosecutor and civil rights attorney, Dana Nessel was sworn in as Michigan’s 54th Attorney General on January 1, 2019.
Her core initiatives are based on her promise to Michigan’s residents — to give the Department of Attorney General back to the people that it serves.
Holiday Scams Campaign
This holiday season, the Michigan Department of Attorney General has compiled resources for all Michiganders as they prepare to shop in-store, online, or donate to a charity. Our proactive holiday scams campaign begins on Friday, November 29, 2024, and continues through Friday, January 3, 2025.
Follow the AG's official Facebook, X, and Instagram pages along with subscribing to the Department's consumer alerts to receive the most up-to-date consumer news and our holiday newsletter.
Consumers are also encouraged to contact the Consumer Protection Team to file a complaint online.
Please have a safe holiday season!
Power Outage Credit Feedback & Inquiry Form
Attorney General Nessel wants to hear about your outage credit experience. If you would like to assist her office with its advocacy efforts on behalf of all Michigan utility customers and help identify outage-related trends and patterns, please fill out this form. This form also allows you to file an Outage Credit Inquiry. It will take less than five minutes to complete the form.
Address Confidentiality Program
For anyone who is at an increased risk of physical harm or threats – including the victims of stalking, domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking – the fear of being found by their perpetrator can be overwhelming.
The Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) will help victims of violent crimes, and individuals at risk of being threatened or physically harmed, keep their address confidential.
File a Complaint
The Consumer Protection, Child Support, Financial Crimes, and Health Care Fraud Divisions of the Attorney General's office help consumers each year by mediating complaints that fall within our jurisdiction.
Please refer to the complaint directory before submitting a complaint to avoid unnecessary delays in processing.
Your Connection to Consumer Protection
The Consumer Protection team helps protect Michigan residents from bad actors who have one primary goal: to trick us out of our hard-earned money. As technology advances, they get more creative with their approach. They prey on anyone vulnerable - especially seniors.
Consumer Protection handles 10,000 consumer complaints each year, provides numerous educational resources online, and issues consumer alerts on scams, data breaches and any other consumer-related issue our residents should be aware of.
