MSHDA awards $2 million in grants for neighborhood enhancement projects

Modular housing program, MSHDA Mod, also awards $210,000

Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has awarded $2 million in grants to organizations across the state as part of its Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP), which is expected to reach its 1,000th family with this eighth funding round.

he grants have been awarded to 31 organizations that will use the funding to supplement innovative neighborhood housing initiatives that make a positive impact in the lives of low-to-middle income communities and residents. These include exterior rehabilitations and housing enhancements, neighborhood public amenity enhancements and interior rehabilitations.

“Grants provided through the Neighborhood Enhancement Program enable community leaders to make meaningful changes that improve the community for individuals and families,” said Amy Hovey, MSHDA executive director. “Whether it’s making critical infrastructure updates to local parks or creating vibrant green spaces, the Neighborhood Enhancement Program continues to help create more dynamic, inclusive communities that Michiganders can take pride in calling home.”

Grants from this latest funding round must be used by December 31, 2023. A new funding round is anticipated to start accepting applications in August 2023.

MSHDA also awarded a $210,000 grant to the Ingham County Land Bank Fast Track Authority as part of the MSHDA Mod program, which constructs modular builds in critical need areas to appeal to Michigan homebuyers. Partnering with local government and nonprofit agencies, the Mod program is positioned to serve as a catalyst for home builds in communities statewide. The repayable loan will be used to construct a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home on Lansing’s east side. The loan term began on April 1 and ends on March 25, 2025.
