Did I receive a letter of inquiry because I was a victim of identity theft?
Receiving a letter of inquiry does not always indicate that you are a victim of identity theft or that a fraudulent tax return was filed using your Social Security number. Michigan law prevents the Department from discussing specific criteria for review of returns.
