Are military survivor benefits exempt from Michigan individual income tax?
Michigan will not tax military survivor benefits that are not included in Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). Surviving spouse benefits that are classified as military compensation or military retirement pay may be deducted to the extent they are included in AGI.
Military retirement benefits must be reported on the Schedule W even if no Michigan tax was withheld.
