Tennessee Man Extradited to Osceola County, Arraigned on Multiple Counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct
February 20, 2026
LANSING – Today, Jason Kushmaul, 50, of Tennessee, was arraigned before Judge Peter M. Jaklevic in the 77th District Court in Reed City on three counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and two counts of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Kushmaul allegedly sexually assaulted three minors under the age of 13 from approximately 2002-2008 while living in Osceola County.
Kushmaul was initially charged in 2016 by the Osceola County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office after the victims reported the alleged assaults, by which time he had already left Michigan. Yesterday, Kushmaul was extradited to Osceola County through Operation Survivor Justice. The Operation is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate, apprehend, and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.
“Operation Survivor Justice continues to ensure that individuals cannot evade charges by crossing state lines,” said Attorney General Nessel. “Through this vital partnership, we are committed to bringing fugitives back to Michigan to face the charges against them.”
Kushmaul will next appear in the 77th District Court for a Probable Cause Conference on March 5.
