Newspaper Resources

  • Allegan District Library has digitized several newspapers such as: the Allegan Journal, the Allegan Journal and Tribune, and the Allegan Gazette. They are nearly complete runs of each paper. Researchers have several search options to choose from.

  • Scanned newspapers from the Petoskey and greater Emmet County area. Site also includes an obituary database for individuals buried in Greenwood Cemetery and other Petoskey area cemeteries.
  • A searchable collection of area newspapers specific to the county and area of Benzie

  • Searchable scanned images of the Cass City Chronicle and the Cass City Enterprise dating to the 1800s. From the Rawson Memorial Library in Cass City.

  • The Friends of the Charlevoix Public Library have indexed and scanned obituaries from the Charlevoix Courier, 1994 to present.

  • Pinckney Community Public Library offers a browseable collection of both the Pinckney Dispatch and the Gregory Gazette.

  • The Public Libraries of Saginaw maintains an index of more than 200,000 obituaries from the Saginaw News.

  • Sandusky District Library provides access to many scanned newspapers and local history material related to the Sandusky, Michigan area.

  • Signal of Liberty is a newspaper whose goal is to bring the issue of slavery to the minds and hearts of the readership. The newspaper shows the growing antislavery movement within Michigan focusing on local churches and other social organizations.

  • Digitized copies of "The Daily Tribune" microfilm from November 1877 – September 2015 by the Royal Oak Public Library. 

  • This website is an index only resource. This resource covers the years 1865-1898, but does not cover all of the Ypsilanti area. Researchers may find some citations for vital records such as births, marriages, and deaths, but are encouraged to search the cited dates on the microfilm copy for further information.
