Government Information
Government Information
Federal, state and local government information at the Library of Michigan
The Library of Michigan has collected U.S. and international government information since the Michigan Territorial Legislative Council first established a library in 1828. Primarily legal materials, this early collection was used by legislators to model laws, rules and policies for the fledgling territory and future state. As the nation and state grew, and local governments were established, government publications began to include valuable and relevant information gathered through sanctioned research and official reporting on government activities and significant events. These publications form a rich and varied collection of authoritative information that contributes to government transparency and provides factual, cultural and historical context to the Michigan experience.
